Although the Migraine and Spine Clinic of Valdosta is an urgent care, walk-in clinic, there will be times when your back pain may need relief while we are not open. To avoid an expensive visit to the hospital, we want our clients to know ways to alleviate the pain until they are able to come in and visit us. At home relief of your back pain is important to know for those acute cases where you just want temporary relief.

Heat and Ice Therapy

Alternating between ice and heat is a good way to reduce inflammation and pain. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth directly on the affected area. This will help decrease swelling and inflammation. A warm compress can help alleviate the pain once the inflammation has reduced. Alternating between the two is a great way to relieve the acute phases of back pain.

Exercise

Exercising is a great way to stretch the contracted muscles in your back. This not only stretches those muscles, but also strengthens them to help reduce any pain you may be experiencing. Three stretches a person can perform to help relieve pain are child’s pose, knee to chest, and a forearm plank

Salt Baths

Epsom salt baths are also a great way to relieve back pain. While soaking in the hot water, your body absorbs the minerals to help ease the pain.

These at home remedies are only considered temporary relief for the more severe back pain types. If you are experiencing any kind of back pain, call us today at (229) 333-9838 to find out your treatment options.
